Playa del Carmen Paradisus by Melia | Royal Service Review

Playa del Carmen Paradisus Beach

Last month my husband and I took our annual ‘anniversary-moon’, this time to the Riviera Maya in Mexico. Having had a great experience at the Melia Caribe resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic last year, we decided to call the Playa del Carmen Paradisus resort our home for one week. Only about a 45 minute ride from the Cancun airport, the Playa del Carmen Paradisus resort is a beautiful and modern all-inclusive property on the beach that makes you feel welcome and special throughout your entire stay.

We were lucky enough to indulge in the Playa del Carmen Paradisus high-end ‘royal service’ experience at La Perla during our week long stay. Our royal service junior suite came equipped with a semi-private (shared) swim up pool and a butler ready to tend to our every need among other daily perks. The stay was relaxing to the say the least, and the resort staff made us feel welcome and special throughout our entire stay.

Playa del Carmen Melia Paradisus Highlights

Our 2017 Anniversary-Moon was a success. Here are some highlights and recommendations:

  1. Easy Transportation Included

We were welcomed at the airport with a sign labeled with our name. The easy 45 minute drive brought us straight to the hotel. Although typically the shuttle is shared with others and might have a few drop-off stops along the way at other resorts, we were lucky enough to have our own shuttle van to bring us directly to our resort.

  2. Favorite Restaurant: La Palapa Restaurant

The Cancun Paradisus resort has several restaurants available to their guests and we were lucky enough to land on our favorite the first night! La Palapa restaurant is casual, yet classy, with high quality foods and delicious choices.

My favorite meal consisted of a fig burrata salad with a honey lemon dressing, grilled grouper with vegetables and assorted cheeses for desert. My husband’s filet minion was also delicious.

Tip: Most restaurants require reservations, so make sure to book those before 1:30pm the day prior.

  3. Favorite Pool: Swim Up

Let me tell you; there’s nothing like waking up and jumping into your private swim up pool.My favorite days were spent hanging over our infinity pool, reading my Paulo Coleho’s The Spy book while having vodka soda’s delivered to me at just the right pace 🙂 Talk about feeling pampered!

  4. Favorite Service: Royal Services Butler

Our Playa del Carmen Paradisus butler, Sergio, was one of a kind. He provided us with his phone number so we could always reach him no matter the question or request. Besides the obvious, being able to schedule restaurant reservations and answering any questions we had, we were taken back by a prepared rose petaled bath surprise for an unforgettable romantic night.

  5. Favorite Amenity: Gym Facilities

This whole gym-kick is a new thing for me, but the gym experience was lovely and made it really easy to keep going back!

All cardio equipment came prepared with a bottle of water and a towel, making it easy to get going. The staff was always in a good mood and welcoming, and personal trainer sessions were offered at a very reasonable price (such as 3 for $90).

Playa del Carmen Paradisus Recommendations

Our Playa del Carmen Paradisus Royal Service stay was exceptional! Here’s here’s how it could have been better:

  1. Updated Activities Schedule

Paradisus has a wonderful activities schedule provided to its guests, however, one night we showed up for a show we had planned our schedules around which did not happen. I believe we may have been given the partial schedule that changed for a new week rotation.

Recommendation: Provide guests with updated activities schedule as week goes on or post it somewhere easily visible.

  2. Bali Bed Reservations

Although most of our days were spend in our own private area and pool or making do with whatever pool chairs or beds were available at the time, we decided to take advantage of the bali beds on of the days. The bali beds are highly sought after covered beds near the pools. When we returned from a beach run one day, we found our towels had been removed and our bali bed was occupied by other guests, making for an awkward encounter.

Recommendation: Switch to scheduled bali bed times or make it clear that beds will be given way to others if not used for a certain amount of time.

  3. Improve Passion Experience

I am a great foodie and was very much looking forward to the Michelin star Passion experience, but was instead left disappointed in the food and culinary creativity.

Recommendation: Update tasting menu and interior design to not feel outdated.

Overall SJ Score: 4.5/5.0

We really loved our time at the Playa del Carmen Paradisus resort and would relive the experience in a heart beat! Where should we go for our 2018 Anniversary-Moon? Would love to hear your recommendations!
