I’ve been loving my skin lately and wanted to share my current go-to morning skincare routine with all of you. I’ve also found some cool new products I’m obsessed with at the moment. I also filmed a YouTube video showing you my morning skincare routine and how I apply the products, if you want to check it out.
My Morning Skincare Routine
1. Facial Wash: Fresh Soy Face Cleanser
I start my morning skincare routine with this gentle Fresh soy cleanser. It smells quite a bit like cucumber, so if that bothers you, beware. It does not foam very much but know it’s working without removing your natural oils too harshly. This is great for anyone who doesn’t like that stripped down feeling or if you have sensitive skin.
2. Exfoliator Sponge: Supracor – SpaCells® Facial Sponge (Black)
Before I take off my face cleanser, I grab my facial scrubbie and exfoliate my skin by rubbing it in circular motions for about only 30 seconds. This helps remove any flaky dead skin cells, leaving my skin super soft. It helps to give your face a mini massage which also promotes circulation and helps with puffiness a bit.
The “sponge”, which is more like a little mitten that fits over 2-3 fingers, has two sides. One side (transparent material) is nice and gentle, which is the one I use on my face. The other black side is more rough and I typically only use that occasionally on my body.
The Supracor sponge material is naturally anti-fungal, antibacterial and allergen free, so you don’t have to worry about it getting yucky like you might with a facial scrub tool like a Clarisonic, for example, where you’re having to change out the scrub brush constantly.
3. Eye Cream: Khiel’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado
Once I have a nice clean even base, I like to start the morning skincare routine products off with my Khiel’s eye cream. I use my ring finger to apply it on my under-eye area and along my orbital bone. I give it a minute or two to soak in before going in with any other products. This product is quite thick and a little goes a long way! It keeps my under-eye area hydrated all day long and also serves as a nice base for concealer if I’m applying any makeup.
4. Facial Oil: Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil
My moisturizer of choice is facial oil, and I have been really liking the marula one from Drunk Elephant. It’s nice and light, which is great for a morning skincare routine, and gets the job done keeping my skin moisturized all day long. I used to be quite scared of oils as I have oily skin, especially in my t-zone, but since incorporating them into my skincare routine, I have noticed that my skin now produces a lot less oil naturally, which helps with the wear of makeup throughout the day.
I use about 3 drops, spread the oil throughout my face and bring whatever is left over down onto my neck. If I’m feeling dry that day, I might add another drop or two, and if I’m thinking of wearing lots of makeup that day, I make sure to stick to no more than 3 drops. The consistency is not as thick as some other oils I’ve tried, so it spreads quite easily on my smooth exfoliated face 🙂
5. Self Tanning: Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops (Dark)
This is one my favorite 2018 product discoveries! I’m constantly applying self-tanner, especially on my pale face, because I tend to try and keep my face out of the sun quite a bit. These Isle of Paradise self tanning drops are amazing and super easy to use. I like using the ‘dark’ version so I can have a little more control over my shade.
To use, I simply mix in 1-2 drops into my facial oil every 2-3 days to keep a golden tan. It smells A LOT LESS than most self tanners, and does develop throughout the day. It’s great for on-the-go when you’re not planning to wear any makeup, but I haven’t had any problems applying makeup over it.
6. Sunscreen: Shiseido Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector SPF 42
As I’ve entered into my 30’s I’ve become more and more aware of the need for sunscreen. In fact, besides your genetics, the sun is probably the other top player in how your skin will look as you age. I purchased this lightweight Shiseido sunscreen during the Sephora appreciation sale and I’m so happy I did! Although I do find it a bit pricey, I absolutely love it!
The consistency is quite thin so I try to apply a nickel size amount and start by placing it on the high points of my face, spreading out to the rest of my face. I bring whatever I have left on my hands onto my ears and neck.
What I LOVE about this sunscreen is that it’s thin and not oily at all. It’s quite matte and doesn’t leave my skin slick and shiny like most sunscreens, and can easily sit underneath makeup without affecting it, making it the perfect morning skincare sunscreen product.
7. Lip Balm: Vaseline Lip Therapy Cocoa Butter Lip Balm Tin
The last step in my morning skincare routine I sometimes like to add depending on how my lips are doing is my cocoa butter lipbalm. This stuff is amazing! You can easily pick this up at any drug store and it works wonders.
I typically hate having anything on my lips – I’m quite picky about it – but when I do I tend to prefer a balm. I find that when I use this lip therapy balm my lips drastically improve the same day or the next day. It also does wonders if you sleep in it. Highly recommend it!
8. (Optional) Fresh: Seaberry Skin Nutrition Booster
The Fresh nutrition booster oil is amazing! You’re only supposed to use it every 2-3 days, but when I do (typically at night time) it leaves my skin super silky smooth and plump. I’ve started to use this less since introducing my facial sponge, but depending on your skin texture and type, you might fall in love with this one as well. This was another great 2018 discovery for me!
Have you tried some of these products? I would love to hear what your thoughts are on them or if you have any holy grail morning skincare routine products you’ve recently discovered!
